The Most Wild Things We’ve Seen on Our Tours

When you’ve been riding these trails for as long as we have, you see a wild thing or two. While the views from our rides are wild enough, we sometimes get some extra excitement to our day. Read on for a collection of some of our most wild stories!

ATVing in Alaska is Always Exciting!

Our Full Day Knik Glacier Tour is the most rewarding and exciting tour that we offer. We ride along this river through forests, across sand dunes, and through creeks to reach the Knik Glacier lake! Enjoy the beautiful glacier views and see glacier icebergs floating around in the water. We’ll cook up lunch while you explore so that you can enjoy a hot meal before the ride back to the office.

You may even see something to brighten your day along the way! On our tours we can see epic views and wildlife such as Dall Sheep or Moose. Sometimes we are lucky and spot baby animals along the ride!

Some days, we get even luckier, and we see some pretty wild sights! We could be buzzed by planes or helicopters, witness the power of the glacier, or run into something interesting from the locals. Read on for some stories of the most wild things we’ve seen on the trail!

Wild Stories from the Trail

Getting Buzzed by Aircraft

While helicopters and planes are common in Alaska, it’s always a treat when we get buzzed by one. Sometimes the pilots from Outbound Heli that we share our property with say hi while we head towards the glacier. Other times we get visited by the military or locals in their planes! It’s always exciting to see them flying so close!

A Clear Day and Paragliders

Some days out riding we have no wind and the glacier lake is still and reflective like glass. Paragliders often take advantage of these beautiful conditions to fly around the Knik Valley. Our guests were treated to an amazing sight one Fall as some paragliders flew around the glacier lake!

That Time Someone Parked in the River

Do you think GPS directed them there? We aren’t really sure what happened, but we know you can’t park here! The depth of the river can be deceiving. Riding with a guide ensures that you make it through every creek crossing safely!

Spotted: Wild Glacier Flamingos

Some years the elusive glacier flamingos make their migration to the Knik Glacier Lake. Drawn to the beauty of the area and the relaxing chill of the lake, they are a rare sight to see. Our guides were lucky enough to tame them and go for a float!

Jokes aside, our guides love making the most of the trip with silly antics and dad jokes. You can always count on them for a smile if the views didn’t bring one already!

When the Local’s Personal ATVs Caught on Fire

While taking some guests on a half day tour, one of our guides happened across some locals rushing gear off their ATVs. The ATVs started to smoke and then catch fire!

Luckily, everyone was safe and our guide was able to give the locals a ride back to our office.

This is a good reason to go on a tour with us! Our CanAm machines are brand new every year and well maintained so you won’t ever get stuck out in the backcountry.

Watching a Giant Iceberg Roll in the Lake

This is not something we get to see every day! One of our tours was lucky enough to watch a glacier iceberg roll over and collapse in the glacier lake. It was an epic sight to see, a reminder of how deep the glacier lake is, and a reminder that we barely get to see how big the icebergs truly are!

Be sure to watch the video below to get an idea of the impressive scale of the glacier. The iceberg lake we ride to on our full day tour is a sight to see and will leave you with some stories of your own!

Come Ride With Us For a Story to Tell!

Who knows what you may see on your ATV tour with us! You’ll just have to book one for the Summer or Fall and come see what Alaska has to offer. The beautiful and rugged landscapes we ride through is enough to write home about. While we can’t promise you a more wild story than seeing a glacier with your own eyes (which is so wild!), days where something even more insane happens makes for quite the stories to tell!
