Where We Ride
We’re lucky to have amazing trails & beautiful lodging right at our home base! When conditions allow we ride right from here and can make it all the way out to the frozen icebergs at the toe of the Knik Glacier. We also have multi day trips that base out of Sheep Mountain Lodge for the overnight; this area offers fun trails and gorgeous views.
Your experience matters to us & good snow dictates where we ride. Anywhere we ride you’ll be treated to stunning views and a variety of fun landscapes to ride through!
Overnight Snowmobile Experiences
This adventure offers multiple days to ride adrenaline-pumping snow packed trails while enjoying the beautiful Alaska backcountry scenery. Here at our home base in Palmer we have endless options for adventure right at our doorstep. Imagine waking up to the thrill of exploration, with the promise of untouched snow and stunning mountain views as far as the eye can see. When the snow conditions align in our favor, you’ll stay in one of our beautiful cottages on site & we’ll ride right from your doorstep… Carving through powder-laden trails that lead us to the majestic frozen icebergs at the toe of the Knik Glacier. It’s an exhilarating ride full of natural beauty where every turn reveals a new facet of Alaska’s untamed wilderness.
Adventures don’t stop there; our multi-day expeditions allow for a second or third day of riding with unlimited trail possibilities to choose from! Some times we’ll trailer off the property to a nearby location for a second day of riding somewhere completely different!
If snow conditions aren’t prime here at Alaska Backcountry Adventures The picturesque Sheep Mountain Lodge will host your adventures. Nestled north of Palmer by just over an hour this remote retreat has sweeping mountain vistas and sits close to the stunning Matanuska Glacier. Sheep Mountain Lodge will serve as our launchpad for extended rides into the heart of Alaska’s winter wonderland. Enjoy the unparalleled beauty of the Last Frontier.
Our multi day tours include lodging, meals, snow mobile & all gear! Even though transportation can be arranged we highly recommend renting a car so when you’re not riding you can explore some of the other activities the area has to offer!

Riding Requirements
Our Snowmobiles do not require prior experience! Riding a snowmobile requires coordinated physical input & you need to use your body to be actively involved with the steering and driving of the snowmobile for proper operation.
The maximum amount of weight a double-rider snowmobile can accommodate is a total of 375 pounds. If clients combined weight is over 375 pounds, we recommend they ride single.
Reservation Policy
Due to limited capacity, advance reservations are highly recommended. If booking by phone, a credit card is required to confirm and hold your reservation at time of booking. Payment is due upon check-in at our office. We accept cash, check, Visa, M/C , American Express or Discover. Cancel up to 30 days prior to tour date with no penalty.
Guide Gratuity
Guide gratuities are not included in the tour price. Tipping is not expected but it is very much appreciated. Any amount is appreciated, in general people tip 5-10%.
Round trip Transportation is available
Round trip transportation between Anchorage and our Palmer office is available for an additional $240 for up to 5 People.
Traveling with a larger group? group transportation can be arranged as well!

“This will forever be the coolest trip my husband and I have taken together. We did the winter snow machine multi-day option and spent two days out on the trails. The first day, we rode to the Knik Glacier. I loved the stunning, open landscape. The second day, we rode more technical trails from the Puriton Creek Trailhead. My husband’s heart was full, as these are his favorite types of trails. Again, the views were beyond outstanding.
Both days we saw plenty of wildlife. Dan was our guide and took pictures and video throughout both days that we will forever cherish.
I cannot recommend this trip enough. We planned this trip six months in advance and had plenty of time to build up our expectations. It far exceeded anything we could’ve hoped for. When Mattie tells you she’s got accommodations, food, clothing, and adventure covered, she means it. This trip was perfection.”
