ATV Guide Training – A Look Into What Makes Your ATV Experience

Every year, our guides begin the season with training to go over all the skills needed to make our tours safe, informative and tons of fun. Take a behind the scenes look at what is included in training and how our guides learn the trails so well!

Skills Our Guides Learn During Training to Make Tours Safe & Fun!

ATV guides learn important skills during training to make your experience the best it can be. Our senior guides mentor newer guides and show them the trail and all the best stops along the way to and from the glacier. Our guides spend a lot of time out on the trail together bonding as a team and getting to know the area before the summer season begins!

During training, our guides learn machine recovery in multiple scenarios in case someone gets stuck along the trial or in a water crossing. You have to be ready for any scenario when you adventure in Alaska!

Guides will revisit safety protocols, ensure everyone knows the way home, and go over the basics of building a good camp fire.

They also work on their dance moves and bring you a silly video to start off the season!

Our team is also medically trained with Wilderness First Aid Certifications so that they can provide help in the case of a medical emergency out on the trail. They always travel with first aid kits and are prepared so you can focus on enjoying yourself out on the trail.

How Our Guides Know the ATV Trails Well

Our guides know the trails so well they could drive them with their eyes closed. Many of our guides grew up in the area and have been riding these trails since they were little! Other guides have a few seasons under their belt, while new guides go on countless training rides to learn the different routes they’ll be sharing with guests.

Along with cracking jokes and telling you stories about the valley, our guide’s top priority is to keep you safe and on track while off roading. This means knowing where to go!

The trail to the Knik Glacier isn’t straight forward – there are multiple trails you can choose to go down that can lead you astray. On the way to the glacier, you’ll have to cross multiple creeks. Some water crossings can be pretty deep during different times of the year, so it’s nice to go with someone who has been watching it change all season and can get you across safely.

Riding with our guides ensures that you take the best (and most fun!) route on your way to the glacier lake.
