What to Expect on Your ATV Experience: What to Wear and Bring
ATVing in Alaska is an exciting way to experience the backcountry and see all the beauty this state has to offer. Come along with us on a tour through the Knik Valley to kick up some dust, cross rivers, and weave your way through birch tree forests. Enjoy glacier views on our half day tour, or ride the full day with us to reach the toe of the Knik Glacier!
Being prepared for your tour with us will improve your riding experience. Wear layers suitable for the weather on the day of your adventure, bring along your camera, and leave the rest of the gear to us. We have you covered for a backcountry experience you won’t forget!
What to Wear on Your ATV Tour
The key to enjoying your time in Alaska is layering. The weather here is variable and can be nice and sunny, cloudy, and rainy all in the same day! Rain or shine our tour is a ton of fun, but it is way better when you feel warm! We recommend you wear a t-shirt and bring a hoodie, fleece, or puffy jacket to wear underneath the provided rain gear in case it gets chilly. Bringing a layer along is a good idea even if the weather calls for sun all day – it’s best to be prepared!
You’ll want to wear pants instead of shorts for your ride. Pants will be more comfortable under the provided rain pants.
Wool socks are best for keeping your feet warm and dry. Feel free to bring sunglasses, a hat, or a beanie for our time exploring at the glacier lake so that you can take off your goggles and helmet and still be comfortable!
Don’t forget to bring your camera, go pro, or other gear to capture it all! Passengers can capture the ride as you go, and you’ll want to take some selfies (or ask the guides to take photos!) as we stop for glacier views.
We recommend you bring:
- Layers for under the rain gear we provide
- Wool socks
- Sunglasses
- A hat or beanie depending on the weather for your lunch stop
- A bag for your belongings
- Your phone, camera, or go pro to get photos and videos!
What is Provided for You on the Tour
We provide all the off roading gear to keep you safe, comfortable, and dry during your adventure. Expect to get dirty on your ride! Our provided rain gear and rubber boots will keep you dry and keep the dirt off your own clothes. We have sizes to accommodate everyone so you can bring the whole family along!
We have adult rain gear ranging from XS-5XL for rain pants, and S-5XL for jackets.
For kids we have rain gear ranging from size 6T-3 which can accommodate most children. We have 18 month to XL kids boots for toddlers, little kids’ shoe sizes 6-12, and big kid shoe sizes 1-3.
Helmets are a no brainer to wear, and your goggles and dust buff will help keep the dust off your face. We have adult helmets ranging from S-4X. We have goggles compatible with glasses but we do recommend you switch to contacts for the day if possible.
We also have kids helmets down to 2XS. If your kid is young enough that they need a car seat we can strap that into the side by side so they can ride in style!
We’ll provide water and snacks for your day so you don’t have to worry about bringing that along. Our full day tour also includes a hot lunch cooked campfire style by the glacier! If you have any dietary restrictions be sure to let us know when booking so we accommodate you.
We will provide:
- Brand new Can-Am Machines
- Rubber boots
- Rain jacket
- Rain pants
- Helmet
- Safety goggles
- Riding gloves
- Dust buff
- Water
- Snacks!
- Hot lunch for the full day tour
What to Expect from your ATV Experience
Get ready for a ride unlike anything you’ve been on before! Our tour will show you around our favorite place – the Knik Valley. Look for wildlife as you weave through forests and cross streams. You may spot moose, bald eagles, or even bears as you ride.
Race across flats, cross wild rivers, and explore the unique sand dunes. Get ready to get dirty and muddy on your ride! Your tour will offer beautiful views of the Knik Glacier and surrounding Chugach Mountains.
As you approach the glacier, you’ll navigate through some of our more technical river crossings. Follow your guide up an old push moraine to witness the beauty of the Knik Glacier and its iceberg lake. Here you’ll have time to explore and enjoy a hot lunch before heading back to our home base.
Our Machines and Seating
We have four different machines that you can ride for your tour! Which machine you are in depends on your experience level, group size, and who all is riding, so be sure to read this over.
ATVs are available for those with prior priding experience. Only 1 person can ride on an ATV!
CanAam UTVs are available as 4 and 6-seaters. Each machine requires at least 1 driver. Please note that the 6-seater machines include two bench seats (not individual bucket seats). While they can seat 6 people, they’re ideal for families with younger children. They’re not designed to comfortably seat six full-sized adults.
As a general guideline, these machines work well for 4 adults and 1–2 younger kids.
If your group is made up entirely of adults or older teens, we recommend booking a second machine with a driver to ensure everyone has a safe and comfortable ride!
Our Uncharted Tour allows for 1 driver and 1 passenger per machine. This tour requires prior experience as you get to drive a CanAm Maverick X3s so that you can go farther and faster than our other tours!
We Can’t Wait to Show You Our Backyard
Your adventure with us is more than just an ATV tour. It’s a wild ride into the backcountry of Alaska where you’ll leave with a ton of new memories. Rain or shine we can’t wait for you to have an incredible time!
