Why Add An Off Roading Experience to Your Alaska Trip Itinerary

The rugged landscapes of Alaska are best experienced from an unpaved road. You’ll find that while some of our highways are gravel, the best roads are dirt. Going off roading is a necessary part of the Alaska experience.

What’s more Alaskan than off roading to a glacier to do a polar plunge? We can’t wait for you to feel the adrenaline rush, learn to ride a UTV or hone in some skills, and see some of the prettiest vistas of the Knik Glacier from the trail.
Come along for a ride and enjoy some of the best sights we have to offer! Alaska Backcountry Adventure Tours is a proud member of the Uncharted Society to bring you the very best adventures on the most trusted ATVs and UTVs.

Ultimate Off Road Adventure: The Uncharted Experience

The Uncharted Experience allows for an exciting expedition into the backcountry of Alaska. This is not your average off road tour and we require past offroad driving experience in order to book this fast paced adventure! Take our brand new, state-of-the-art CanAm Maverick X3s as your trusty ride down dusty dirt roads, up to mountain vistas, and across rivers to reach the toe of the Knik Glacier.

This thrilling ride is great for experienced UTV drivers who love the sport of off roading and want a more authentic Alaskan adventure.

The CanAm Maverick is built for speed and agility, making the drive up to steep mountain vistas, through water crossings, and across the sand dunes easy. With this machine you’ll have access to spots that other tours lose out on, making it a more private experience.

We’ve got plenty of hidden gems to share with you. Enjoy the views and look out for wildlife along the way!

What to Bring to Your ATV Adventure

We will provide the majority of the gear that you will need for your off road adventure. We recommend bringing your phone, camera, or gro pro for your tour; you won’t be able to drive and take photos but your passengers can!
It’s also recommended that you bring some layers depending on the weather! It’s best to put your items in a bag that we can add to our dry bag while we ride. Be prepared to get dirty during your ride!

We will get you ready for your ride with:
  • Your Can-Am machine.
  • Rain jacket and rain pants to ensure you stay dry.
  • A helmet and goggles for safety.
  • A dust mask (neck gaiter) to keep the dust off your face.
  • Boots and gloves so you stay warm and dry.
  • Plenty of snacks, water, and a hot lunch.

What To Do After Your Tour

Once you get back to base and say farewell to your guide, be sure to head into Palmer to enjoy the cute little town we are closest to. Go for another excursion since the sun won’t be setting anytime soon, or grab some much needed dinner after your day out riding the trails.

Go hiking or sightseeing in Hatcher Pass: Drive up to Summit Lake, hike around Independence Mine, or head to the Hatcher Pass Lodge for a drink and some food.

Head to the Reindeer Farm: Visit and feed reindeer, highland cows, alpacas, and Lucy the moose! This is a fun way for everyone to spot some wildlife.

Grab a quick bite from The Butte Burger Place: If you don’t have time to drive into town and are on your way to Anchorage, stop by Butte’s Burgers for a meal to-go. This hidden gem has the best burgers and fries that are sure to fill you up after a day of riding.

Have dinner at Palmer Ale House: A great option for American style food and drinks. Sit outside on the patio and have the chance to enjoy some live music in the Summertime.

Eat at Noisy Goose Cafe on Friday or Saturday: While they are only open for dinner on Friday and Saturday, the Noisy Goose Cafe is an amazing homestyle restaurant that serves the best comfort food around. If you happen to be staying in Palmer this is a great breakfast spot.
